Obverse description Diademed and veiled head of Venus facing right, her hair elaborately dressed and bound with a stephane, rendered in fine high-relief engraving characteristic of late Republican coinage. A strand of hair falls gracefully along the neck, and the facial features are rendered with idealized classical refinement. The legend DICT•ITER COS•TERT is disposed around the field, proclaiming Caesar's extraordinary offices. The flan is irregularly shaped, as is typical of hammered Republican denarii struck at a moving military mint circa 46 BC.
