Obverse description Bare head of Juba II portrayed in the guise of the youthful Herakles, facing right, wearing the Nemean lion's skin headdress tied beneath the chin, the scalp draped over the forehead and curling locks visible at the temples. The facial features are rendered with fine Hellenistic portraiture conventions, conveying both royal dignity and divine association. The legend REX IVBA appears in Latin characters along the right field, reading downward. A beaded border frames the design.
