Obverse description Bare diademed head of King Juba II facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with finely detailed curled hair. The legend REX IVBA is disposed in the field around the royal effigy, with individual letters separated by pellets or star-like punctuation marks characteristic of Mauretanian royal coinage. The portrait exhibits naturalistic modeling of facial features consistent with the court engraving style of Caesarea. The flan is irregular, as typical of hammered silver issues of this period.
