Obverse lettering HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P
(Translation: Hadrianus Augustus, Consul Tertium, Pater Patriae. Hadrian, emperor (Augustus), consul for the third time, father of the nation.)
Reverse description The goddess Tellus (Earth) stands facing left at center, draped in a long chiton, her head turreted or wreathed with grain ears, and holding a long plough or hasta in her right hand while extending her left hand forward in a gesture of offering or benediction. At her feet to the right, wheat stalks or grain sprouts rise from the ground, symbolizing agricultural fertility and the stability of the earth. A small figure, possibly an attendant or personification, kneels before her at the lower left. The composition conveys the Hadrianic propaganda of a prosperous and stable empire, with the legend divided across the upper field.
