| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, with short curly hair and close-cropped beard rendered in the classicizing Hellenistic style characteristic of his reign. The bust is draped and cuirassed, truncated at the shoulder. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, distributed evenly around the periphery of the flan. The portrait exhibits the refined die-cutting typical of the Rome mint under Hadrian, with strong relief and naturalistic modelling of the facial features. |
