| Reverse description | The emperor Hadrian stands facing right in military dress, extending his right hand to raise the kneeling personification of Gallia, who reaches upward toward him in a gesture of supplication and gratitude. Hadrian holds a volumen (scroll) in his lowered left hand, symbolising his administrative beneficence. The personification of Gallia is draped and shown semi-recumbent, her pose conveying the submission and subsequent restoration of the province. The two-word legend RESTITVTORI GALLIAE is distributed in the field to left and right, within a beaded border, proclaiming Hadrian as restorer of Gaul. |
