(Translation: Hadrianus Augustus, Consul Tertium, Pater Patriae. Hadrian, emperor (Augustus), consul for the third time, father of the nation.)
Reverse description Hadrian, togate and standing to the right, extends his right hand to raise the kneeling and draped figure of Gallia, the personification of the province of Gaul, who reaches upward with both hands in a gesture of supplication and gratitude. Hadrian holds a scroll in his left hand, emblematic of imperial authority and benefaction. The composition belongs to the celebrated 'Restitutor' series issued during Hadrian's travels, commemorating his benefactions to the provinces of the empire. The legend RESTITVTORI GALLIAE arcs around the field within a beaded border.
