| Reverse description | The goddess Roma seated left on a throne or cuirass, helmeted and draped, holding a Victory (Nike) in her extended right hand and a long vertical spear or sceptre in her left hand. A small figure or trophy may appear at her feet, consistent with RIC II.3 #543 type. The encircling Latin legend P M TR P COS III is distributed around the periphery of the flan, denoting Hadrian's pontifical, tribunician, and consular titles. The reverse field is unencumbered, with no exergual inscription, reflecting the spare, classicising aesthetic of early Hadrianic coinage struck at the Rome mint. |
