| Reverse description | The goddess Pax seated left on a high-backed throne or chair, her robes draped in flowing folds across her lap and legs. In her extended right hand she holds a small figure of Victory, and in her left hand an olive branch, both attributes emblematic of peace and imperial prosperity. The peripheral legend is divided on either side of the central figure, rendered in clear Latin capitals. The composition reflects the canonical Hadrianic reverse type celebrating the Pax Augusta, a theme central to Hadrian's early reign ideology. |
