| Reverse description | Hadrian seated left on a raised tribunal platform, extending his right hand toward an attendant figure also seated left, in the act of conducting a congiarium or public distribution of gifts to citizens. A citizen ascends the steps before the platform to receive largesse, while in the background a standing figure of Liberalitas is depicted facing, holding a tessera and cornucopiae or coin scoop, symbolising imperial generosity. The composition conveys the formal ceremonial character of the liberalitas, a recurring propaganda theme in Hadrianic coinage celebrating the emperor's beneficence toward the Roman people. |
