| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with fine portraiture typical of the Hadrianic period, the emperor depicted with his characteristic short curly beard and hair crowned by a laurel wreath. The drapery is visible at the left shoulder, rendered in crisp relief. The obverse legend encircles the bust in the field, executed in well-spaced Latin capitals. The portraiture reflects the refined Hellenistic artistic influence prevalent in Roman imperial coinage of the early second century AD. |
