| Reverse description | The personification of Liberalitas is depicted seated right on a throne or platform, wearing a diadem and drapery, extending her right hand toward a togate citizen or supplicant standing to the left who reaches upward in a gesture of reception. Liberalitas holds what appears to be a tessera or counting board in her left hand, an attribute closely associated with the distribution of imperial largesse. The scene commemorates Hadrian's third public congiarium (distribution of gifts or money to the Roman populace). The reverse legend P M TR P COS III is disposed around the field, with LIBERAL AVG III appearing in the exergue, all within a beaded border. |
