| Obverse description | Bare-shouldered, laureate bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with fine portraiture detail including his characteristic short curled hair and full beard. The effigy is depicted with considerable sculptural depth and naturalism, consistent with the high artistic standards of the Roman Imperial mint during the Hadrianic period. The encircling legend is disposed around the periphery of the flan in crisp Latin capitals, reading HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS. A border of beading frames the design. |
