Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, depicted with his characteristic short beard and curly hair rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition. The emperor's bare-shouldered or lightly draped bust is presented in strong relief against a plain field. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys the restrained classical idealism typical of Hadrianic coinage from the Rome Mint, with finely engraved facial features including a prominent brow and strong jaw. A beaded border frames the design.
