Reverse description Central type consists of a crescent with horns pointing upward, enclosing a seven-pointed star or radiate star in the field, a device symbolising celestial and divine authority. The composition is bold and centrally placed within a plain, open field. The reverse legend COS III is distributed around the periphery, referencing Hadrian's third consulship held from AD 119 onwards. A dotted border frames the design. The simplicity of the reverse type contrasts with the detailed portraiture of the obverse and is typical of the austere reverse designs favoured during Hadrian's later coinage.
