| Reverse description | The personification of Clementia stands in full figure, facing left, rendered in classical contrapposto pose. In her extended right hand she holds a patera, symbol of piety and offering, while her left hand grasps a long vertical sceptre. She is clad in a long stola and palla, with drapery falling in naturalistic folds characteristic of Hadrianic reverse types. The surrounding legend CLEMENTIA AVG COS III P P is distributed in the field around the figure within a beaded border. The reverse composition reflects the imperial ideology of benevolence and merciful rule promoted during Hadrian's reign. |
