| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate draped bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered in the early Trajanic portrait style with short curly hair. The emperor is depicted with a slightly idealized physiognomy consistent with early Hadrianic coinage of AD 117. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP CAES TRAIAN HADRIANO OPT AVG GER DAC, distributed around the full periphery of the flan. The die work is crisp and characteristic of the Rome Mint's skilled engravers active at the transition from Trajan's to Hadrian's reign. The flan is irregular in outline, typical of hammered Roman silver coinage of the period. |
