Obverse description Emperor Galba depicted in full military dress, mounted on horseback and advancing to the right, his right arm extended and levelling a javelin in a commanding gesture. The emperor's figure conveys martial authority, rendered in the vigorous relief typical of Julio-Claudian and early Flavian-era hammered coinage. The Latin legend SER GALBA IMP runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor as Servius Galba, Imperator. The flan is irregular in shape, as is characteristic of hand-struck Roman Republican and early Imperial silver coinage of this transitional period.
