Obverse description Bare head of Emperor Galba facing right, with the characteristic aged, stern features of the emperor rendered in the realistic portraiture style typical of late Julio-Claudian and early Flavian coinage. The effigy shows a close-cropped, balding head with visible facial lines, conveying imperial gravitas. The circumferential Latin legend reads IMP SER GALBA AVG, identifying the emperor by his full imperial titulature. The flan is irregularly shaped, as is characteristic of hand-struck Roman silver coinage of this period. A beaded border surrounds the design.
