Obverse description Laureate bust of Galba facing right, with bare neck and draped shoulder, rendered in a naturalistic late Republican style. The emperor's mature, stern features are depicted with characteristic portrait realism. The encircling legend IMP SER GALBA AVG runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor as Imperator Servius Galba Augustus. The flan is somewhat irregular and shows the typical characteristics of hand-struck Roman imperial coinage. The portrait reflects the brief but historically significant reign of Galba as the first emperor of the Year of the Four Emperors.
