Obverse description Galba depicted in full military dress as an equestrian figure, riding a prancing horse to the right, his right arm extended forward levelling a javelin. The emperor is rendered with dynamic energy, his cloak billowing behind him in the classical tradition of imperial military portraiture. The surrounding legend SER GALBA IMP runs along the upper periphery of the coin, framed by a beaded border. The die work is bold and deeply struck, characteristic of the Hispanian mint issues produced during Galba's bid for imperial power.
