Reverse description Minerva, helmeted and in full martial attire, stands in fighting stance atop a rostral column, facing right, brandishing a spear in her raised right hand and holding a shield in her left; an owl, sacred to the goddess, perches to the right at the base of the column. The rostral column, adorned with the prows of captured warships, evokes Roman naval victory and imperial power. The reverse type belongs to Domitian's celebrated Minerva series, reflecting the emperor's particular devotion to the goddess. The legend is distributed around the field in crisp Latin capitals.
