| Reverse description | Standing figure of Minerva facing left, helmeted and clad in flowing military dress, holding a spear in her right hand and a large round shield resting on the ground at her left side. At her feet to the lower left, a small owl — Minerva's sacred attribute — is depicted standing on the ground line, reinforcing the deity's iconographic identity. The reverse legend IMP XXI COS XIIII CENS P P P is distributed around the periphery. This reverse type, with Minerva as patron goddess of Domitian, is one of the most frequently employed designs on Domitianic denarii and reflects the emperor's particular veneration of the goddess. The composition is bold and well-centred, with the figure rendered in confident, deeply cut relief. |
