Reverse description Minerva, helmeted and in martial stance, standing right atop a rostral column, brandishing a spear in her right hand and bearing a round shield on her left arm. An owl, the goddess's sacred bird and emblem of wisdom, is perched to the right at the base of the column. The rostral column, decorated with the rams of captured ships, alludes to Roman naval supremacy. The reverse legend is disposed around the field, and the overall composition reflects the close association Domitian cultivated with Minerva as his divine patroness.
