Reverse description Two standing figures face one another in the field: at left, the toga-clad figure of Claudius extends his right hand in a gesture of greeting or reception; at right, a Praetorian guardsman depicted in military attire — cuirass, pteruges, and helmet — clasps the emperor's hand with his right while holding an aquila (legionary eagle standard) upright in his left. The scene commemorates the Praetorian Guard's formal oath of allegiance to Claudius following his accession. The two-word legend is divided by the figures, with PRAETOR at left and RECEPT at right, enclosed within a beaded border.
