Obverse description Bare head of Caligula (Gaius Caesar) facing right, rendered in a naturalistic portrait style typical of early Imperial coinage. The emperor is depicted without diadem or laurel wreath, showing close-cropped hair rendered in fine engraving. A continuous circular legend surrounds the portrait, reading C CAESAR AVG PON M TR POT IIII COS IIII. The portrait occupies the central field with a slightly irregular flan edge characteristic of hammered silver coinage.
