Obverse description Laureate head of the emperor Caligula (Gaius Caesar) facing right, rendered in high relief with carefully articulated facial features characteristic of early Julio-Claudian portraiture. The laurel wreath, symbol of imperial authority, is positioned across the brow with ties visible at the nape. The legend encircles the effigy in a continuous band around the coin's periphery. The portrait exhibits the refined die-cutting style associated with the Rome mint under Caligula's reign. The field is smooth, with the portrait occupying the majority of the flan.
