| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered with fine portraiture characteristic of Augustan coinage, showing cropped hair with characteristic comma-shaped locks over the forehead. The legend CAESAR AVGVSTVS runs in two parts flanking the portrait, with CAESAR to the left and AVGVSTVS to the right. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, as typical of Roman Republican and early Imperial hammered coinage. The portrait is set within a plain field with no border beading visible on the obverse face. |
