Reverse description The reverse displays the inscription S P Q R above CL V, set within or upon a circular clipeus virtutis (votive shield), flanked on either side by a palm branch — symbols of victory and honor. The palm fronds curve inward beneath the legend, their detailed veining clearly articulated. The shield motif references the golden shield awarded to Augustus by the Senate in 27 BC for his virtues of valor, clemency, justice, and piety. The composition is bold and centered, with the legend occupying the upper and lower fields of the shield in large, well-spaced Roman capitals.
