Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in fine naturalistic style with wavy, layered hair swept forward over the brow. The portrait is high-relief and finely engraved, characteristic of the Augustan classicising aesthetic. The legend is divided around the periphery within a beaded border, reading CAESAR to the left and AVGVSTVS to the right of the effigy.

Reverse description A large round clipeus (votive shield) depicted in low relief, rendered as a concave circular boss occupying the majority of the reverse field, within which the inscription CL V is incused. The legend S P Q R is arranged around the shield in the field — S and Q to the left, P and R to the right — referencing the dedication of the shield by the Senate and People of Rome. The border is beaded and the flan is characteristically irregular.
