| Additional information |
This issue belongs to the so-called "Spanish" or "Colonia Patricia" coinage of Augustus, struck around 19–18 BC during a period when the emperor was reorganizing Rome's eastern provinces following his negotiated recovery of the Parthian standards — a diplomatic coup he promoted with extraordinary propaganda intensity. The S P Q R CL V reverse type, referencing the *clipeus virtutis* awarded to Augustus by the Senate in 27 BC, was part of that sustained campaign to frame his rule as a restoration rather than a monarchy.
The mint attribution to Colonia Patricia (modern Córdoba) remains debated among specialists, though RIC accepts it.
