Obverse description Bare laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine portraiture characteristic of the Augustan era, with delicate facial features and a wreath of laurel leaves tied at the back. The legend CAESARI AVGVSTO is distributed around the periphery of the flan, with CAESAR to the left and AVGVSTO to the right of the portrait. The style is high relief with naturalistic modelling of the cheek, ear, and flowing ribbon ends of the laurel wreath visible behind the neck. The flan is slightly irregular as typical of hand-struck Roman silver coinage of this period.
