| Reverse description | A tetrastyle temple or aedicula with a domed, turreted roof is depicted in facing view, its columns supporting a richly decorated entablature with crenellations. Within the shrine stands a large rounded object interpreted as a military standard or shield (clipeus virtutis), flanked by additional standards or vexilla at either side. The legend S·P·Q·R is divided symmetrically in the field, with S·P to the left and Q·R to the right of the central structure. The composition commemorates the honors bestowed upon Augustus by the Senate and Roman people, likely referencing the restoration of the standards captured by the Parthians. A beaded border encircles the design. |
