Obverse description Bare laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine high-relief portraiture with carefully detailed hair beneath the laurel wreath. The effigy displays the idealized yet individualized Augustan portrait style characteristic of the late 1st century BC imperial coinage. A circular legend surrounds the portrait, divided on either side of the bust. The coin's flan shows the slightly irregular fabric typical of hand-struck Roman silver of this period.
