Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in fine portrait style with naturalistic hair swept forward over the brow in short, layered locks. The effigy presents the emperor in an idealized yet individualized manner characteristic of early Augustan coinage. The circular legend runs along the periphery of the flan, divided on either side of the portrait. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, as typical of hammered Roman silver coinage of the period.
