| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine portrait style with naturalistic hair curling across the forehead, characteristic of early Imperial coinage. The portrait displays the emperor's strong facial features with a slightly parted mouth. The encircling legend reads CAESAR AVGVSTVS in Latin capitals, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, as is typical of hand-struck silver denarii of the Augustan period. The portrait occupies the central field with minimal remaining flat space. |
