| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine portrait style with short, layered hair swept forward over the brow in characteristic Augustan fashion. The effigy is presented in profile with naturalistic facial features. The encircling legend reads CAESAR AVGVSTVS, distributed around the obverse field. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of hammered Roman silver coinage of the period. |

| Reverse description | A tetrastyle temple with a rounded dome depicted in frontal elevation, representing the Temple of Mars Ultor in Rome. Within the intercolumniation stands the figure of Mars facing left, helmeted and cloaked, holding an aquila (legionary eagle standard) in his right hand and a parazonium (short sword or dagger) in his left. The abbreviated legend MAR VLT, for Mars Ultor (Mars the Avenger), appears in the field flanking the temple structure. The composition commemorates Augustus's vow to avenge the assassination of Julius Caesar. |
