Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in a naturalistic Hellenistic portrait style with finely detailed hair swept forward over the brow. The effigy presents the emperor with strong, idealized features characteristic of Augustan official portraiture. The circular legend reads CAESAR AVGVSTVS, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The field is plain, focusing attention entirely on the imperial portrait. The die work reflects the refined engraving standards of the Roman mint under Augustus.
