Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered with fine naturalistic detail typical of early Augustan portraiture. The emperor's hair is depicted in characteristic comma-shaped locks arranged across the forehead and swept back over the skull. The legend CAESAR AVGVSTVS is inscribed in the field around the portrait, divided to either side. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered silver coinage of this period. The portrait is of high artistic quality, reflecting the refined engraving style of the Spanish or Roman mint under Augustus.
