| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered with finely detailed wavy hair arranged in characteristic Augustan style. The portrait is executed in a naturalistic Hellenistic tradition, presenting the emperor with idealized youthful features. The encircling legend reads AVGVSTVS DIVI F, identifying him as Augustus, son of the deified Caesar. No laurel wreath is depicted on this issue, the bare head being a deliberate iconographic choice. The legend is disposed around the periphery of the flan in crisp Latin capitals. |
