| Obverse description | Bare-necked, laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in finely modelled high relief with naturalistic facial features characteristic of Augustan classicism. The laureate wreath is depicted with detailed leaf work, with locks of hair visible beneath and falling behind the neck. The legend is disposed around the periphery of the flan, reading AVGVSTVS to the left and DIVI F to the right of the portrait. The portrait conveys the idealised, youthful authority typical of official Augustan coinage. |
