| Obverse description | A right hand with fingers extended and open, shown palm-downward in the centre of the field, emerging from a draped sleeve or cuff at right. The hand is rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail. The encircling legend reads IMP CAESARI above and SCARPVS IMP below, all in Latin capitals within a beaded border. This distinctive type served as the obverse device for the coinage struck by Lucius Pinarius Scarpus in allegiance to Octavian (later Augustus) in the Cyrenaican region during the final phase of the civil wars. |
