Reverse description A detailed frontal facade of the Basilica Aemilia is depicted, showing the building's multi-storied arcade with rows of columns rendered in perspective, surmounted by a decorated entablature and tiled roof with projecting eaves. The architectural rendering is among the most ambitious on any Republican denarius, conveying the grandeur of Rome's celebrated public building. The legend AIMILIA in the upper field and REF to the left, S•C to the right, and M•LEPIDVS in the exergue surrounds the design, proclaiming the restoration of the Basilica Aemilia by Marcus Aemilius Lepidus by decree of the Senate. The whole is framed within a beaded border.
