| Obverse description | Laureate and veiled head of Philistis or a goddess, facing left, with elaborately rendered flowing hair adorned with a wreath of grain or laurel leaves, finely detailed in high relief. The facial features are rendered with considerable artistic refinement characteristic of Syracusan die-cutting of the Hieronian period. The border of the flan is irregular, as typical of hammered coinage of this era. No legend appears in the field or around the periphery of the obverse. |
