Reverse description A charioteer driving a fast quadriga to the right, depicted in dynamic movement with the horses shown at full gallop, their legs fully extended. The charioteer leans forward, holding the reins taut with both hands and a kentron (goad) extended, conveying vigorous motion in the Hellenistic tradition of Syracusan reverse types. The legend IEPΩNOΣ (of Hieron) appears in the exergue below the horses, identifying the issuer as Hieron II, king of Syracuse. The composition is bold and energetic, filling the flan with confident draftsmanship typical of third-century BC Sicilian coinage.
