| Obverse description | Laureate head of Apollo facing left, rendered in fine classical Sicilian style with idealized youthful features. The laureate wreath is depicted with careful detail, its olive or laurel leaves arranged in two tiers across the brow and crown. The hair is elaborately worked, with tight curls visible at the temple and longer wavy locks falling behind the ear. The portrait is set without legend within a plain field, occupying the full flan in the tradition of Syracusan coinage of the late fourth century BC. |
