Obverse description Finely engraved head of Kore-Persephone facing left, her flowing locks rendered in undulating waves with characteristic Syracusan artistry. She is adorned with a wreath of barley ears set atop her hair, evoking her identity as goddess of grain and the underworld. A secondary wreath appears behind the head in the field. The portrait is set within a beaded border, the whole displaying the accomplished die-cutting style associated with the Hieronian mint of Syracuse.
