Obverse description Central device depicts the coat of arms of the City of Dawson, showing two figures flanking a mining sluice box with crossed implements in the lower field and a rising sun above, surrounded by a beaded inner border. The circular legend reads THE CITY OF DAWSON Y.T. at top and INCORPORATED JAN. 9 1902 at bottom, with IN GOD WE TRUST appearing on a secondary inner legend arc. The maker's mark CAN ART DIE appears in the lower exergue.

Reverse description High-relief central device depicts a gold prospector kneeling and panning for gold at a streamside, set against a dramatic mountain landscape with conifer trees and a radiant midnight sun rising over the peaks. The denomination DAWSON DOLLAR is inscribed across the field in two parts flanking the central figure, with the surrounding legend THE LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN at top and REDEEMABLE IN THE HEART OF THE KLONDIKE along the lower border, all within a beaded inner rim.
