Obverse description Baaltars, the chief deity of Tarsus, enthroned left upon a high-backed seat, his right hand extending a long sceptre and his left hand holding an ear of grain and a bunch of grapes on the vine. The figure is rendered in the prevailing Achaemenid artistic convention, combining divine attributes of agricultural fertility and regal authority. An Aramaic inscription identifying the deity appears in the field.
