| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle on a broad square klippe flan, a displayed imperial eagle with spread wings, crowned head facing right, and ornate foliate decoration at the base. The Latin siege legend VRGEN NECESS DAVEN 9 IVN 78 (Urgente Necessitate Daventriae, 9 June 1578) runs around the inner circle, referencing the necessity of coinage during the Spanish siege of Deventer. The design is struck in low relief typical of hastily produced emergency coinage, with the inscription and eagle contained within the circular die area while the square flan extends well beyond. |
